Chateau Juvenal Jolie Grenache / Syrah 2016
I received this bottle of Chateau Juvenal Jolie Grenache / Syrah 2016 and several others from Amy Smith Kingsolver of goodcleangrapes.com an independent wine affiliate of Scout & Cellar Clean-Crafted Wines of Celina Tx.

Chateau Juvenal Jolie Grenache / Syrah 2016 is a French red from the Appellation Ventoux in the Rhone region. Placed on the southern slope of Graveyron, a small hill in Comtat Venaissin in Provence, which has a clay and limestone gravel soil enjoying maximum sunshine. The old vine Grenache loves the arid section of the vineyard while the Syrah thrives in the deeper soil. Anne-Marie and Bernard Forestier bought the domain and its castle in 2001. Anne-Marie and Bernard Forestier and Sébastien Alban joined their lands, built the cellars of Château Juvenal, and made Château Juvenal wines at the castle for the first time, under the leadership of benevolent Philippe Cambie, International renowned winemaker. As of 2012, the vineyard has been certified Organic, no synthetic products are ever used in their wines. “Making for pure and expressive and have been created and nurtured with respect.”
The Grapes
The Grenache grape got its start in Northern Spain but by the 19th century, it was well established in the Rhone and Languedoc. The grape is the mainstay of Châteauneuf-du-Pape the fruitiness associated with basic Côtes du Rhône Villages. It is very seldom used alone because of its low tannins and high Alcohol content.
Syrah also is known as Shiraz has a long history in the Rhone-Alps region. It is generally high in tannins and acidity. Syrah continues to be the main grape of the northern Rhône and is associated with classic wines such as Hermitage, Cornas, and Côte-Rôtie. In the southern Rhône, it is used as a blending grape in such wines as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Côtes du Rhône, where Grenache usually makes up the bulk of the blend.
What I found
This is my first Organic Wine and it took me by surprise. The colour is a beautiful plum red with excellent clarity. The high alcohol content makes for some long-lasting legs in your glass. Upon tasting the fruit jumps out of black cherry and dark fruit with white pepper notes. The body is what I would call medium with balanced tannins and acidity. It has a very long dry finish of what I can explain as a liquorice taste. I find this wine to be of excellent Quality and a great value. I enjoyed it very much, as I hope you do. This is a blend of 70% Grenache – 30% Syrah. with 15% alcohol content. I think this would go well with chicken dishes / Mediterranian foods. It drinks well now and should be good resting for 7 years.
