Magister Bibendi in general terms means Master of Ceremonies at a Party!  This bottle is another selection of Scout & Cellar Wines. The first wine was a winner Chateau Juvenal Jolie Grenache / Syrah 2016  and  I am looking for another one here. Navarrsotillo Magister Bibendi Reserva Graciano Rioja 2010 is a Decanter 95 point wine.

The Winery’s vineyards Bodegas Navarrsotillo are located in Calahorra, Andosilla, and San Adrian in the “Mediterranean Rioja area of Spain. It is located Just south of San Sebastian on the Bay of Biscay. This region has cold winters and hot dry summers and rainy autumns. The vineyards lands consist of limestone, sand, clay, and gravel. This gives them various growing conditions for the various grapes. It is a totally Organic winery following the regulations set by Organic Agriculture Control Body of La Rioja.

The brothers Andre and Ramon Serrano come from a long line of winemakers giving them a superb background to make award-winning wines. The Graciano is from over 20 years old vines producing a bright red color and pleasant aroma.

The wine

Navarrsotillo Magister Bibendi Reserva Graciano Rioja 2010 is 100%, Graciano. The grapes are de-stalked and macerated for a month followed by light pressing. Following pressing, it is aged in oak casks for 12 months. The recommended drinking is 8 years so it should be consumed soon.

What I found

I let it breathe for an hour before trying this luscious wine. The color is a brilliant ruby red with perfect clarity. It has beautiful thin long legs The nose is notes of leather and dark cherry with a little oak to boot.

The flavor is that of dark cherry and tobacco with oak around the edges. The body is medium  very elegant with acidity and tannins in balance. The finish is very dry and fair fruity.  Alcohol content 14%.

I find this to be an excellent wine, Decanter hit it on the head with this one. It’s reminiscent  of some of the well aged Bordeaux’s I have had in the past. I say if you get it you’ll love it . You can find it here Scout & Cellar  Navarrsotillo Magister Bibendi Reserva Graciano Rioja 2010
