Lucky Duck Shiraz

Spread the love

Lucky Duck Shiraz

I have seen this on the shelf for some time now and decided to give it a whirl. This wine is Lucky Duck Shiraz from South Eastern Australia. The vintage is anyone guess.
The bottle says it is bottled by Lucky Duck Winery, Livermore and Ripon, California. I’m guessing it is shipped here in bulk tankers.  I hear it is only available at Walmart where I purchased it. It was under $4.00 so my expectations were not high. Some people like it some don’t. I’m one that didn’t love it but I did not pair it with food until my second tasting.
I opened the bottle up last Sunday and found the clarity to be brilliant ruby red with brown edges. It had no fingers to speak of. The aroma I found to be a mild black cherry, with earthy leather, nothing special. The alcohol content is 13.5.
The taste is dry with flavours of Blackberry and white pepper that sticks to the sides of your mouth. It’s not overpowering, kind of one dimensional with a short slightly harsh finish. All in all for $4.00 it would most likely be good with steak or burgers off the grill  On my second try I had it with pasta and red sauce. It went with that. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. If you see it and try it, I would love to know what other people think.
Next week I will come up with something different and exciting from my local wine store, till then, Cheers, Lew
