Spread the love
Krásná hora | Zweigel/Pinot 2015
Here is another great wine from Krásná hora vineyard from Moravia, Czech Republic. I have done several other reviews of their wines. The all have been stellar in quality and this is no different. Amanda Wilson of Ahtel Wines has some winners on her hands. Krásná hora | Zweigel/Pinot 2015 is one to check out. You can purchase these wines directly at their website.

About the vineyard
The vineyard is A small family-run winery. Krásná hora’s which means beautiful mountains approach to their vineyards is the same as their children, “we love them and we try to do our best to make the best of them.” Their first planting began in 1960 by their grandfather during communist control. They own 7 hectares of certified organic vineyards and since 2014 have used Bio-Dynamic methods. All fruit is hand-picked. They prefer to stay small and produce high-quality wines. The first vines in their line were planted in the 13th. century by French monks using traditional French varietals such as Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are of varied soils including loess, sand, and limestone making perfect for planting various varietals.

About the region
Krásná hora is located in Moravia which is an area that takes up 30% of the whole Czech Republic, bordering the Niederösterreich region of Austria, Slovakia in the east, and Bohemia in the west. The rich history of the land has a story dating back to the 2nd century and is known as a traditional region in Central Europe that served as the center of a major medieval kingdom, known as Great Moravia. In the 20th century, Moravia became part of the modern state of Czechoslovakia and subsequently of the Czech Republic after the fall of communism.

The wine
This wine Krásná hora | Zweigel/Pinot 2015 is 35% Zweigelt and 65% Pinot Noir grape. The Zweigelt grape is a red wine grape variety developed in 1922 in Austria. It was a crossing of St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch. It makes a very smooth fruity, aromatic reds. Pinot Noir, the name is derived from the French words for pine and black. The pine meaning the grape variety having tightly clustered, pine cone-shaped bunches of fruit. It is a very popular grape around the world. This wine was fermented in large oak Casks for 1 month with skin contact. Malolactic fermentation was then in steel tanks then aged in big oak casks for 6 months. It was bottled with no filtration or finings.
What I found Krásná hora | Zweigel/Pinot 2015
After getting to the proper temperature with my Kelvin K2 and letting it breathe, I poured a bit into my glass and observed the color as a pale red / rosé that is brilliantly clear. It doesn’t have much in the line of legs with the alcohol @ 11%. The aroma is a bit of floral, a bit of cherry and oak. Upon tasting it right up front you get to know it is a dry wine with dark cherry, vineyard earth, and toasty oak. The finish is tasty, long and dry. This is a great wine for baked or grilled poultry, cheese, and bread or all by itself and is light enough to please white wine drinkers. There were only 260 cases produced so contact Ahtel Wines at their website before it is gone!
I wish everyone a great week, I have another treat for you next week. Until then, be safe, have some wine and enjoy Life!
