Lindeman’s Bin 45 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Having a liking for heavier red’s  I came across this inexpensive Lindeman’s Bin 45 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, on my local shop’s shelf. Like some people, I liked the label. Lindeman’s partnered with the well-respected Australian artist David Bromley know for his artsy and vibrant work. His inspiration comes from Children’s books and pop culture. Lindeman’s wanted to catch the eye of the buyer and make them smile. They did just that! Nice fall colors with the grapes ready to pick.

Everyone knows Lindeman’s, they have been an Australian stronghold. Their humble beginnings were in the Hunter Valley in 1843 by Dr. Henry Lindeman. He was an Englishman who became a medical doctor that enjoyed winemaking. In 1840 he and his wife set sail for Australian to make wine. in 1843 the first vines were planted. After 7 years of winemaking, his dreams were dashed by an arsonist. Dr. Lindeman had to go back to work in the gold mines as a doctor until 1853 when he recovered his fortune and rebuilt. The Wine

The 2016 season was a tough one for wine growers. A cold and wet condition in the spring affected shoot development, then the mild summer gave way to rainy periods.  Many vineyards were hit with severe storms and hail. The season started almost a month late but the cooler weather delayed ripeness and produce a good harvest.  After fermentation, it was matured in French and American oak barrels.

What I found

The color is a beautifully brilliant intense ruby-red with light edges and faint legs. The nose is mild with blackberry/Black cherry hints with a touch of alcohol and oak. I rather enjoyed the aroma.

Served this at room temperature it had a medium body with a rich mouth feel. I taste black cherry and plum sprinkled with oak. The tannins are velvety and blends well with the acidity.I think it has good balance and needs to be consumed with several years. It is a nice wine, a bit on the lighter side for a Cab but enjoyable. The Alcohol is 13.5%  It is perfect for red meats or dinner off the grill. Price is anywhere from $4.00 to $14.00 depending on where you find it. It’s a wine that won’t let you down.
